Lost Dog MLK/Lamar

About 6:40 on my way home from work I saw a dog along walking up the sidewalk. I was coming down MLK, about a block away from the intersection at Lamar. The dog looked to be a german shepard (or a similar breed, I'm bad with dogs!) It had a collar on and one of it's tags was red (only thing I could see) It was casually walking up the sidewalk(away from Lamar), but I didn't see a human near it so I assume that he or she ran away from its owner.

Hopefully the dog's owner was nearby or someone here will find it!

Please Help Me Find My Roomate

MY ROOMATE POLARIS KYO VANISHED MYSTERIOUSLY THIS MORNING WITH ALL HIS STUFF, AND SOME OF MY FRIEND JIMMY'S THINGS.

HE LEFT A NOTE STATING THAT HE WAS "SORRY" BUT HE HAD TO "TAKE CARE" OF HIMSELF FIRST.

THIS AFTER HE DIDN'T PAY HIS HALF OF THE RENT, AND TOOK HIS DOOR OFF THE HINGES BY KICKING IT.

MY LANDLADY SAYS SHE RECEIVED A VOICEMAIL WITH THE SAME BULLSHIT.

HE IS MENTALLY UNSTABLE AND THIS IS THE LATEST IN A MONTH'S WORTH OF ISSUES.

RIGHT NOW I AM ATTEMPTING TO TRACK HIM DOWN.

HE HAS NOT ANSWERED TEXT MESSAGES OR PHONE CALLS FROM EITHER MYSELF, MY LANDLADY OR FRIENDS. HERE'S A PICTURE OF HIM:

PLEASE LET ANYONE YOU MAY KNOW IN AUSTIN OR IN TX PROPER TO BE ON THE LOOKOUT.

IF YOU SEE HIM, PLEASE EMAIL ME AT s_osmun@hotmail.com OR REPLY HERE.

Printer Ink Cartridge Recycling/Refills/Discount Replacement

I thought this question had been asked not too long ago, but can't find in tags/memories:

Best place to take used printer cartridges in return for discount on replacements?

Location doesn't really matter - paying the least possible for replacements is a bigger deal.

Thanks so much for your help, [info]austincommunity! You guys are making a hard time a heck of a lot easier.

Petsitters?

Our usual petsitter has taken on a new full-time job, and we need to find one in time for the holidays! Can anyone recommend a petsitter or petsitting service in the north central area?

FWIW, we have two dogs, one low-maintenance cat, and a few plants that need watering.

Thanks in advance.

(Sorry if this is redundant, but I didn't find any posts about sitters under the "pets" or "animals" tags.)

Is Harry Knowles a pretentious tool or a good guy?

I've never met him but I've read his movie reviews and they are TERRIBLE. Its like he does not have a word processor application and/or he never completed a single class of high school English.

Basically I've found that if he adores a movie, I'll probably dislike it to some extent. He's the anti-good review barometer.

Its a shame there is not an alternative to his 'rule' over the movie scene in Austin.

Mowers

Hello everyone,
I'm looking for someone that can come mow my lawn for a one time basis. Basically there's this house that hasn't been mowed in awhile and the back yard looks like a jungle, I need someone that can come out and mow it once. The places I found online all require multiple commitments which is not what I am looking for. I'm in NW Austin/Cedar Park area, if they can do it on the weekends what would be even better. Thanks.

last call for sniff N swap party!

last call for those of you who'd like to be added to the invite!

I've also had several people ask to be put on the list for the next time I do this so let me know if you're interested but just not available on Sunday. I think the next one will be after the holidays are over!

if you have no clue what on earth I'm talking about, here is the last post...

http://community.livejournal.com/austincommunity/7282219.html

ETA: please don't feel that you HAVE to have things to swap or even bring your own stuff to sniff. My personal collection is pretty huge and covers several oil companies so there will be a lot to check out if you're just interested and want to see what this is all about.

and don't forget, there is a great door prize!

Hard Drive Recovery?

Any places around town that do drive recovery? Any experience with these places? We have a drive on which we think Windows is corrupt, but we can't see anything on the drive other than the partitions. Thanks in advance. ETA: Because of the dire situation, we have taken the drive to the first place that was recommended to us: IT Data Recovery. We are hopeful that the repair will cost $300, which is their minimum charge. They're located downtown, and said that it may take as little as 24 hours to recover our data. www.itdatarecovery.com I just thought I would update this to include the place that we took our drive so that others in the future may benefit from this info! Lemme know if you want a report on what ends up happening...

Tickets for Regina Spektor show

Hello, any tickets for Regina Spektor, next wednesday on 11/11 at Stubbs?  I have my tickets, but a friend is lazy and didn't get hers on time.  If you have two tickets that you don't want, can't use or know where she can find some since the show is sold out, please let me know! Thanks,
Haylan

Urgent call for blood donors

If anyone is reading this and can get to a Scott and White hospital or other place to give blood this afternoon, please please do. There is an urgent call for donors in the wake of the shooting at Fort Hood this afternoon.

Some of the severely wounded are being transported to Austin hospitals.

Burnt Orange Report blog has posted a full list of Austin-area places accepting blood donations, and I'm replicating it below the cut.

LiveJournal Major Notes: Spam counter-attack, RSS feeds again, CSI Deadly Intent contest

The empire strikes back

In recent weeks, we've taken huge steps towards blocking spam accounts on LiveJournal. In fact, we've suspended as many as 30,000 accounts in a single day! We've implemented several pre-emptive measures to prevent the creation of spam accounts, and we've honed our detection of suspicious content. Spam bots are a crafty lot, so we'll continue to refine our tactics and keep up the good fight to keep you safe from spam attacks on LiveJournal.

RSS feeds again

If you're addicted to [info]xkcd_rss, [info]icanhaschzbrgr, or other syndicated feeds, we're pleased to report that we've resolved the update error that was mucking up your RSS feeds. While content was being pulled correctly, it wasn't being posted to the feeds themselves. Late last week, we finally nailed down what we hope was the root problem, so content should post properly. We thank you for your patience.

Camp Bow Wow (doggie day care & kennel)

Anyone have an opinion (good or bad) about Camp Bow Wow up around Howard Lane/I-35? I’ll be going out of town for the December holidays and have my dog booked to stay there for a few days, but he’s my first dog as an adult and I want to make sure he’s going to a nice kennel. Judging from their website, it sounds like a doggie paradise. He will have to go there once before I leave for doggie day care as an assessment/trial period, but I’d like to hear what the doggie owners out there in LJland think of this place. Thanks. :)

Sort of a weird question...

Does anyone know of any practitioners around town who use leeches? I have a GIANT hickey that I need to get rid of before I see my bf this weekend.

Anyone a Mark or Avon Rep?

I want to buy some mark products, is anyone here a mark rep? Might as well have someone benefit from it! I'm also interested in looking at Avon, if you're into that too. I'm very central, if that makes a difference.

FunFunFun Fest and SLR cameras

hey all,

I have a nifty SLR camera and I'd love to take it to FunFunFun fest this weekend and shoot some pics ... but their web site says "No professional cameras". I assume this means SLRs but I'm not sure. Does anyone have any further information? (I haven't yet emailed their contact link.) Has anyone gotten a "pro" camera inside in previous years? (I've never been.) Are the gate people hardcore about searching for them? Are security people walking around and making you show your photo passes? I mean this is Austin so I'd assume not, but I'm not sure.

Thanks in advance for any advice ... I'd really love to take some nice pics at this event :-)

Don't Tell Me Who To Love

If you haven't seen it, you really need to see the video of Ray Boltz's song "Don't Tell Me Who To Love" under the cut.

Today, it feels especially appropriate to keep Ray's beautifully-sung words, and the undying hope they represent always in our minds & in our hearts:

Now there always will be hatred and voices that condemn.
Oh, but I believe that true love is gonna make it in the end.

Place to take your dog rollerblading (Arboretum area)?

Kevin's got a lot of energy, and I'm starting to think I need to get a bit more creative with ways to drain it.  Particularly on those sad days when I'm going to have to leave him alone for a while - I'd rather leave him alone completely exhausted than leave him alone with all sorts of pent up energy to expel by barking, running around, and generally being destructive.

And it's getting to the point where a nice long walk doesn't really take it out of him.  The guy needs to run.  And frankly, he's faster than me.
