Dog Teeth Cleaning?

Hi!

My beautiful dachshund has a serious case of assbreath. '

Right now its somewhere in between hot garbage and decomposing roadkill.

While I understand that this is a typical issue with the breed, I know having their teeth professionally cleaned helps a lot. So I come to you Austincommunity, to ask for suggestions (hopefully based on experience) for names of people or places that you believe are best suited for this kind of work. Price ranges wold definitely be awesome.

Thanks in advance!

glass repair

Alas, I have a broken window in my house. Anyone have a glass company or handyman they particularly recommend, or should I just hit up the yellow pages?

complaints choir of austin

Does Austin have a complaints choir? I've looked around but I can't find any information on us ever having one.

If you've never heard of it, here is the original and here is Chicago's. They've been organized worldwide and I'm shocked Austin has never participated in it - we're a musical bunch AND we sure as hell like to complain.

If there isn't a choir already, I'd kind of like to get a group together and organize one. Is anyone on here interested? In addition to singers, we'd need a director, musicians, and general complainers to contribute.

Frozen Hot Chocolates!

Are there any places that make 'em around here?

(note, they are not milkshakes!)

ISO electronic parts

I'm looking for electronic parts, specifically a 3300uF 35V capacitor. It's a large capacitor, so Fry's doesn't carry it. We found it online, but given that we need it to fix my hot tub's circuit board (and I want it fixed YESTERDAY), we're trying to source it locally first. Any ideas?

Thanks!

Rift flares after US Episcopal Church elects gay bishop

A diocese in Los Angeles has elected only the second openly gay bishop in the global Anglican Church, reigniting an issue that has caused deep division.

Hair, long beautiful hair

So, I have 40 some odd days until my wedding and my hair girl isn't calling me back. I'm in the minor freaking out mode, and I'm asking for help. Do you lovely ladies, or gents that know lovely ladies, have a great hair girl? This isn't just for the wedding, it's a change for good.

Some specifications: North of the river to south Round Rock is good. Must not have a long ass wait list right now. Good with wavy hair that can do whatever I want. Colour is a good thing, not pink or blue, just normal run of the mill.

Ideally I'm looking for someone to consult with now to do my hair in January. My style is really simple and plain, nothing complex for the wedding or ever.

Thanks, y'all, it is appreciated!

cute dresses!

I always see girls in Austin wearing the cutest dresses, but I have a hell of a time finding anything! Occasionally I'll hit a good patch at Buffalo Exchange and find a couple things I like, but not lately. Stores I know about don't seem to be able to keep the styles I like in stock.

I like sun dresses and retro, shirtwaist dresses mostly, but it doesn't need to be actual vintage. Really I like anything kind of quirky that fits close in the torso, then fans out into a fuller skirt.

I don't really care if the place is costlier- I'd rather have a couple expensive dresses that I really like than a bunch of cheap ones. Where are people finding this stuff?

Best Barbacoa in Austin?

Hey Guys,

My Mom has been complaining to me that she hasn't eaten any good barbacoa for a long time. But when I asked her where she's tried it, it turns out she hadn't tried any places. She assumed anywhere she went wouldn't have it fresh/traditional/whatever. So, where do you people go for barbacoa around here? Preferably south.

looking for flat engravable gold ornaments

When I was growing up every year we would go somewhere and all the kids would get to pick out a flat, "gold" engravable ornament. They came in all kinds of shapes like reindeer, Christmas tree, angel, etc. and we would get our name and the year on them. They were really cheap, no more than a couple of dollars. I know WalMart had them as recently as two years ago because I got one then, but I went today and they didn't have anything like it and the lady at the jewelry counter didn't know what I was talking about.

Any ideas for where to find these? I'm sure Things Remembered has something like this, but I need cheap ones. THANKS!

Advent Calendar

Anyone know somewhere that still has advent calendars in stock (north of 6th)?

I've tried World Market, but all their locations are sold out.

(no subject)

Hello, Austin!

I am going to a themed party tonight and need to re-create the lightning bolt in the photo below (which you can click on to enlarge). I am thinking getting something from MAC is the best way to go, but if any of you usual make-up wearers have another place in mind with the right make-up I need at a great price, then by all means please do share.

Thank you ever so much!

Hey y'all let's go down to 6th and not be able to hear each other!

I'd like to go out and socialize and dance but the only places I know are the 'tard bars on 6th street. Where's a place with booze, coffee, and smart people to talk to, with some music that knows its place and won't jump in the middle and strangle the conversation? Bonus points if folks regularly set-to in impromptu debates about all sorts of interesting topics with strangers. That'd be cool.

PSA

This probably goes without saying, but please bring your furry friends inside tonight. Under about 40 degrees, it is miserable and potentially dangerous for them to be outside, even in a dog house. Garages get mighty cold too, so if that's your only option, please put a heater in there with them!

Snow day!

It's snowing up in the Wells Branch area! Anyone else seen any? Have you stocked up on toliet paper and canned goods for the dreaded Doom Storm 2009? :P

Watch out for frozen roads and drive safe Austinites.

24 Diner - New Austin-owned Restaurant Open 24 Hours

Just a heads-up to everybody, there's a new local diner open 24 hours, and it's called 24 Diner. It's at 6th and Lamar, adjacent to Waterloo Records, where the Waterloo Ice House used to be.

This place has fantastic food, great service, and even an exceptional wine list. Here's a review from The Daily Texan about 24 Diner's opening night a few days ago:
