Social Justice Sunday Class Looking for a Few More People

Hello Trinity!  We would like to invite others to participate in our Social Justice Sunday School Class.  We meet between the first two services every Sunday (about 10:25-11:10) and in the summer we meet before the shared service (this summer from 9:20-10:25).  We do not have homework and we work real hard not guilt trip you if you cannot attend every week!  We enjoy each other.  We are a sharing group.  We share our lives and our struggles to be creators of justice. Please drop by the class at the end of the hall sometime and get to know us.  We have read a book as a class but mostly we read a short article and talk about it.  Some of the recent things we have discussed:

Thank You from Hope Food Pantry and Volunteer Opportunities

Wow, what a tremendous response to the "First Sunday Food Drive!”  Thank you very much for all your support in Hope's mission to alleviating hunger in the community.  You are a wonderful, caring group of people.

Volunteer Opportunities:

1) Hope could really use a volunteer (s) to help weight the "First Sunday Food Drive" items.  This is only a once a month commitment and will not take that much time.

2) Hope needs some help preparing for clients on Thursday morning from 8:30/9a.m. to about 10:30/11a.m.  This can be once a month, every other Thursday, etc.  Whatever works with your schedule.  Please email Stephanie Humphreys at
info@HopeFoodPantryAustin.org if you are interested in volunteering.

Thank you!!!  Trinity UMC remains a very strong link to Hope Food Pantry Austin.

World Communion Sunday on October 4th

From: http://new.gbgm-umc.org/give/specialsundays/worldcommunion

World Communion Sunday is a time to be in communion with Christians all over the world and to enable us to "press on toward the goal" of serving God in life-changing ministries.

When churches take the offering for this special Sunday, the proceeds provides ethnic scholarships for international and United States racial and ethnic minority graduate students and scholarships for racial and ethnic minority persons seeking second careers in church-related vocations.

Fifty per cent of the special offering goes to the World Communion Scholarship Program of the General Board of Global Ministries. These scholarships enable persons from churches in nations other than the United States and from ethnic and racial minorities in the United States to prepare for leadership in mission in church and society.

From Asia-Pacific, Africa, Latin America, the Caribbean, Europe and the Middle East, as well as from racial and ethnic minorities in the United States, Crusade scholars are committed to the life and mission of the Church, as well as to its ministry to society and the world. Since the inception of the program in 1944, the Crusade Scholarship Program has funded nearly 4,000 students.
